Royal
Easter Show prize-winner
Congratulations to Peter Gillard of the Department of Primary Industry
Water and Environment, Tasmania. The Royal Agricultural Society
of NSW organizes an Agricultural Software Competition in conjunction
with the Royal Easter Show in Sydney. This year one of his XpertRule
KBS applications won the expert system first prize. The department's
Threatened Fauna Adviser is used by Forestry
officers to access formal and agreed advice from the Threatened
Species Unit of Forest Practices Board and Parks and Wildlife. It
provides help on how to log in a way that preserves habitat for
any threatened species that occur in the harvest area.
Exhibitors came from all over Australia and New Zealand to this
year's Agricultural Software Competition which was run on the 4th
and 5th of March 1999. The Royal Easter show itself ran for 16 days
over Easter and attracted over 1 million people to the new Homebush
site which is also to be the venue for the Olympics in 2000.

uses Expert Systems technology to assist the delivery of information
